Meet our 2025 Summer Intern

Over the past several summers, Stockyards Ag Experience has brought an intern on board to help with various activities over the summer. This summer’s intern is Liz Kelm.

Liz Kelm is originally from Luverne, MN, a rural community that played a key role in shaping her love for agriculture. Her family operates a small farm near Beaver Creek, MN, where they grow corn and soybeans. Liz’s love for agriculture was sparked early on through time spent on the family farm and her active participation in her local 4-H program, where she discovered a passion for advocating for the agricultural industry.

Academic Career

Liz recently graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy. In addition to her major, she pursued minors in Precision Agriculture, Crop Protection, and Soil Health Management. Currently, Liz is continuing her education at South Dakota State University, working towards a degree in Agricultural Communications.

While at South Dakota State University, Liz was actively involved in the Agronomy and Precision Agriculture Club, connecting with industry professionals to learn about advancements in the agricultural industry. She also served on the scholarship committee for Sigma Alpha – Omega, a professional agricultural sorority that promotes women pursuing careers in agriculture.

Outside of academics, Liz has a love for figure skating. Her passion for skating started when she was very young and continues to share her love for skating as a coach with the Brookings Figure Skating Club. During the winter months, she enjoys teaching skaters of all ages and abilities improve their skills and achieve their skating goals.

“I’m thrilled to be part of the Stockyards Ag Experience team this summer! I’m eager to learn more about the history of the Sioux Falls Stockyards and its impact on agriculture in South Dakota. I look forward to connecting with the public and helping promote agriculture through Stockyards Ag Experience.” says Liz. She hopes her time at the museum will allow her to further grow as an agricultural communicator.
